Drawing on his depth and breadth of experience as a clinical psychologist, consultant, educator, and biomedical ethicist, Dr. Melvin Dowdy has been an advocate for personal and organizational development for nearly 40 years. As a partner in Delphi Initiatives, he has focused on executive coaching, team development, and organizational change leadership with leaders from the health care, banking, law, and consulting industries, as well as small business owners, public officials, not-for-profits, and community organizations. Into all of his work he carries a passion for values-based leadership, leadership spirituality, and the leader’s role in cultivating organizational conditions for ethical integrity.

Mel earned his BA in Philosophy & Theology from North Carolina Wesleyan, his MDiv in Pastoral Counseling from Duke Divinity School, his PhD in Counseling from Duke University Graduate School, and his Masters of Arts degree in Clinical Ethics from University of Virginia.  Mel earned certificates from the Gestalt Institute of Richmond in Gestalt Therapy and from the Gestalt Institute of Cleveland in Organization Systems Development.  He is certified in the use of a wide range of leadership assessment tools, including The Leadership Circle Profile and the TLC Culture Survey.

Mel currently serves as program faculty of the Stayer Center for Executive Education at Mendoza College of Business, University of Notre Dame, where he teaches Executive Integral Leadership.  In 2011 Mel received the Inspiring Educator Award from his colleagues at Mendoza. Mel continues his clinical practice as well, working with people in significant life transitions, individuals seeking a deeper spiritual life, and couples.  Mel enjoys singing, playing the acoustic guitar, drawing, gardening, traveling, and living in Richmond, Virginia with his wife, Bonnie.
