Partner Practice Updates
Mel Dowdy is focusing his coaching, facilitation and team building engagements on local & regional nonprofit organizations, as well as international custom work through The University of Notre Dame Stayer Center for Executive Education.
Richmond is particularly rich with opportunities for experienced leaders to leave a legacy of integrity and to strengthen the fabric of community life. Religious, educational and healthcare institutions can once again become trusted as values-based centers for human excellence.
Wherever diverse identity groups are joining to make Richmond a model city of vibrant community life, he is making these efforts his priority. Most recently, he has been engaged in efforts to heal the deep wounds of sexual abuse of minors within the institutions of the Catholic Church. On a different scale, he has become an advocate for creating neighborhood-based Villages, where persons over 55 can age in place with security, social support, and the personal services needed for a healthy lifestyle.
Through Notre Dame Mel has been traveling to Ireland to debut leadership programs within Notre Dame’s Center at Kylemore Abbey. These have included open enrollment programs and custom design work for consultancy groups based in Ireland. In the US, his work with Notre Dame has helped launch leadership programs for Thor Motor Coach and the Cristo Rey Network of schools for urban students from economically disadvantaged families.
Bonnie Dowdy continues to provide local consulting work for nonprofits, community action groups and churches. Her work includes dialogues focused on bridging the gap between groups defined by economic and racial identities. Most recently, she is conducting workshops on implicit bias and facilitator training. She continues to work with nonprofits on logic modeling and program evaluation. Bonnie has developed an application of Polarity Management thinking to how church leadership deals with conflicting visions of their ministry. Among other exciting work has been the Armstrong Freshman Academy, an education support program for urban high school freshman who are at least two grade levels behind in Math and English.
